A new chapter in the Sauber history beginsNow there is also something happening in Hinwil on the engine side: Sauber Petronas EngineeringAG has assumed the responsibility for production, revision and further development of the engines used in the 1997 Formula One season. This has been made possible by the agreement concerning the technical co-operation with Ferrari cocluded at the end of November 1996.For Team Red Bull-Sauber-Petronas the two year contract with the traditional italian race outfit secures the access to highly modern engine technology based on Ferrari`s experience. In the 1997 Season the Sauber-Petronas V10 engines will be built and revised by a group of about 20 specialists in Maranello/Italy who operate independent from the Ferrari race engine departe- ment. All engineers and mechanics in the group have previously worked on other motor racing projects such as Formula One,the IMSA program or the ITC program. At the race track there will be two engineers present from both Sauber Petronas Engineering and Maranello responsible for the Sauber-Petronas V10 engines. Some of them will also be present at all planed test sessions of Red Bull-Sauber-Petronas. |
